Rangeela in Kannada
Ram Gopal Varma made a spectacular splash in Bollywood with his ‘Rangeela’ in 1995. The film was responsible in resurrecting Urmila Matondkar’s near-extinct career as well as that of Jackie Shroff. And who can forget Aamir Khan’s amazing turn as a ‘tapori’? Rangeela was also A R Rehman’s first independent Hindi film. Well, ‘Rangeela’ is coming to town again. No, it is not another film to be re-released. ‘Namma’ Sudeep is remaking the film in Kannada! No guesses for who plays Munna. As for superstar Rajkamal (character played by Jaggu Dada), our Crazy Star Ravichandran will do the honours. Now, who will be Mili? Not Urmila herself folks, but Namita, who was last seen in ‘Neelakanta’ alongside Ravichandran. A doubt persists, though. What does RGV have to say about all this?

Lost the record
The rains seem to have finally stopped for this season. Likewise, the successful run of ‘Mungaaru Male’ in Kempe Gowda Road (at Sagar Theatre) has also ended. The Ganesh-Pooja Gandhi (right) starrer has bowed out to ‘Krishna’, another film with the same actors. The collections of ‘Mungaaru Male’ had eased out a bit after ruling the roost for quite sometime. In fact, the film lately comprised repeat audience. A middle-aged couple who had come to watch ‘Mungaaru Male’ for the umpteenth time, were disappointed that the film was off the screen. However, they soon consoled themselves and watched the latest by their favourite hero. But the film lost out on the record of running successfully for one year in Sagar. Too bad one film deprived the other of a rare record!

Jaggu dada is back!
First he was the chief minister, now he is a police inspector! Yes, Jackie Shroff (right) is back in ‘Namma Bengalooru’ for another Kannada film. Giving a convincing, yet restrained performance in the record-making film ‘C/O Footpath’ by Master Kishan, Jaggu dada has come to play a cop in director Lucky Shankar’s film ‘Zamana’. To this reporter’s delight, he will also try his hand at dubbing in Kannada for the role! Now, now, what about actors here who seem content to let voice-over artists dub for them?

Got my hands full!
Here’s more news from Kamannana Makkalu. Actress Ramya is no longer part of the film. Her being paired opposite Sudeep (first time seen in ‘Ranga SSLC’) after a long time had generated excitement among fans. However, the actress, now busy doing Tamil films, has apparently had ‘date problems’ during the shooting of ..Makkalu. A peeved unit now has no option but to find a replacement. That leaves the fans disappointed too. What say, Ramya?
