A superstitious doctor couple from Rohtak in Haryana were booked for causing death of their 12-year-old son who died while his superstitious mother tried to transfuse his blood to her elder son in the belief of making him equally intelligent as the younger one.
Dr Promilla who is a Professor at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences, (PGIMS) at Rohtak is now admitted to a hospital after she, overcome by grief, allegedly slashed her writs following the death of her son. She is also being provided psychiatric treatment. Her husband Dr Ashok Malik spilled the beans over the incident to the police while admitting his complicity in the plan.
The doctor couple were desperate to see their elder son, Abhishek enrolled in a MBBS course. However, realising that he was an average student and had little chance of qualifying through the medical entrance test, they devised a grotesque scheme inspired by their belief in tantric remedies. The plan was reportedly inspired by a “dream vision” claimed by his wife wherein her “guru” instructed her to transfuse the blood of her brilliant younger son into her elder son.
However, 12 year old Piyush, a class six student, reportedly died due to excessive bleeding while Promilla was taking out his blood from a neck-vein to be injected into Abhishek.
The shocking case of superstition clouding the minds of this doctor couple came to light ten days after the police had registered a case against three alleged assailants on the statement of Abhishek on October 1. The police had found the blood-soaked body of the couple’s younger son, Piyush, in the house while his mother, Promilla was also found unconscious with her wrists slit.
Evidence
What made the police suspicious was the fact there was lot of smoke, smouldering ash, oil, incense sticks, matchboxes and burnt clothes at the spot which indicated that some trantric rituals could have been performed.
Abhishek’s statement to the police that three unidentified assailants had barged into their house and killed his younger brother was also found to be a lie during police probe.
Later sustained questioning of Dr Malik and their domestic servant drew the lid off the grotesque incident. Though Malik himself was away to Delhi on the day of the incident, he has admitted that he was fully aware of the plan.
