Bollywood celebrity Amitabh Bachchan, who turned 65 on Thursday, celebrated his birthday quietly with his mother in Leelavati hospital.
Son Abhishek is shooting in Namibia for Goldie Behl's “Drona” and daughter-in-law Aishwarya is wrapping up “Pink Panther” in Boston. Moreover, Jaya Bachchan was down with flu. Added to these problems was the constant worry of a critically ill mother.
“He wrapped up his shooting by evening on the eve of his birthday and headed straight to the hospital to be with his mother. Being with his mother gives him inner strength and tranquillity,” said a close friend of Amitabh Bachchan.
Bachchan politely refused to do interviews.
“What is there to say? A birthday is like any other day for me. Yes, friends, fans and supporters make it a very special day for me. I accept their good wishes with tremendous humility and gratitude,” Amitabh said.
However, the tranquillity was disturbed when scores of fans and media personnel gathered outside his house. There was chaos when he came out to greet them.
Journalists ‘molested’
Women TV journalists alleged that some policemen deputed at actor Amitabh Bachchan’s residence on the occasion of his 65th birthday today molested them as they were waiting to interview the megastar.
“We were waiting outside Bachchan’s residence Pratiksha at suburban Juhu for his sound-bytes. At around 1 pm when he came out, expectedly the crowd broke into a frenzy and jumped towards him. But the police instead of controlling the mob, began manhandling the journalists,” a reporter deputed at the actor’s residence said.
“There was a sizable number of women journalists present there. The constables on duty grabbed us by our hands and began touching everywhere,” she said. Another reporter said that police did not stop at that.
“We all were crying, our clothes were dishevelled and some of the officers on duty were laughing at us when the public too began misbehaving,” they said in the police complaint.
The entire group of scribes and camera persons went to the Juhu Police Station to lodge an FIR. But ACP Kaiser Ahmed discouraged them from filing the FIR.
Complaint
“We had to file complaint on an ordinary piece of paper and six journalists and some of the camera persons from various news channels signed on the reverse side of the paper, demanding action against the policemen,” another reporter on condition of anonymity said.
“The ACP did not promise any action but said that he would ensure such an incident was not repeated again,” she said.
