The dissident group within the BJP has come out openly against Chief Minister Narendra Modi declaring that they would not work under his ‘dictatorship’.
After a meeting held here on Thursday at the residence of former Gujarat Chief Minister Keshubhai Patel, the dissidents made it clear that some of them may even cross over to the Congress party. The dissidents discussed the issue for about three-hours.
Mums the word
Party general secretary and in-charge of Gujarat Arun Jaitley refused to comment on the developments by saying ,“they are not worth commenting”.
Unofficially, however, the BJP said that Govindbhai, the dissident leader who was Home Minister during the Godhra riots, would not be of much help ful to the Congress as he would be `unwanted by the minorities’.
The BJP high command has put Gujartat under a sharp internal scrutiny with the December poll results in the state are likely to be a test case for the saffron popularity in other party ruled states as also in the Lok Sabha elections.
Jaitley had been asked to do damage control and check internal rebellion with two former saffron chief ministers Keshubhai Patel and Suresh Mehta not responding to “peace proposals” from the central leadership.
Modi’s ‘aura’
With the party president Rajanath Singh asserting that Modi’s `aura’ would win poll for the BJP, the anti-Modi faction sees no chance of true, sources said adding that “rebel candidates” would do all to boost the chances of Congress candidates in the fray.
Besides Gujarat, the BJP will have to fight against anti-incumbency in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.
Gujarat has attained a special case not only for the BJP but for the anti-BJP forces on account of Modi who has become “a rallying point” for all stray Hindutva forces.
