The Prime Suspect?
*Aditya Ranganath
In the busy city of Bangalore, lived a middle-aged man named Ramaswamy. He was single and lived in a small apartment...

He earned a living by running a grocery store, which was located in the heart of the city and was doing fairly well.

Ramaswamy was ready to help others without any expectations. As he was becoming old, he was looking for someone who could take care of his business. Then a young man named Ravi who was an orphan came to him for help. After his parent's death he had come in search of work to Bangalore. Ramaswamy gave him the job of taking care of the grocery store. Ravi quickly grasped the business and improved it multifold. He also appeared to be an honest man as nothing had disappeared either from the store or from the cash box.

Ramaswamy and Ravi became very good friends. Though they didn't agree on many things, they enjoyed each other's company. Ravi even got married to a girl named Usha and they got a little boy named Rohit.

One Monday morning Ravi had not turned up for work when Ramaswamy arrived at the store. The clock struck eleven and the first customer of the day had arrived. As everyone was busy, Ramaswamy asked one of the employees to do Ravi's job of managing cash in the store. After billing the items the customer had bought, the employee opened the cash box to put the cash in. To her horror, she discovered that there was not a single paisa left in the cash box and she immediately informed Ramaswamy.

Except Ramaswamy, everyone suspected that Ravi had stolen around fifty thousand rupees, the entire week's earnings. But Ramaswamy thought differently. He felt that someone framed Ravi to make him the prime suspect. But who?? The police were called and the inspector too suspected Ravi.

Ramaswamy immediately told the inspector that Ravi would never do such a thing. He went home but was shattered. He was slumbering on his easy chair, when he heard a knock on his door. He opened the door to find Ravi standing there.

Ravi fell on his knees and begged Ramaswamy to forgive him. He confessed that he had taken the money for his little son who was in the hospital with a brain tumor.

Ramaswamy gave him more money for the treatment of the child. He also told him that he had done a brave thing by admitting his mistake and that he would tell the police to close the case as he had solved it himself.
Ravi went back home a happy father and a proud man while Ramaswamy slept peacefully with a big smile on his face.

The next day the store was back in business and Ravi was minding the store and everything was well!!!
