Landis appeals against charges
The Court of Arbitration for Sport has confirmed that US cyclist Floyd Landis has lodged an appeal against doping charges that could strip him of his 2006 Tour de France title. Landis hopes the Lausanne-based CAS will overturn the decision handed down on September 20 by a panel of three US arbitrators, who ruled 2-1 that Landis was guilty of using drugs.
Same team for next two ODIs
The Indian cricket selectors have not made any changes to the Indian team for the sixth and seventh one-dayers at Nagpur (Oct 14) and Mumbai (Oct 17), according to Board of Control for Cricket in India Secretary Niranjan Shah, reports DHNS from Vadodara.

Symonds racially taunted
Australia all-rounder Andrew Symonds was racially abused by spectators while fielding in the fifth one-day match against India, Australian officials said, reports DHNS.
A section of the crowd taunted Symonds by making monkey noises while he was fielding at the boundary line. “We are not calling for any action. We have let the local authorities know our displeasure. We think it is up to the them to deal with it,” Australian team spokesman Philip Poppe said.
Two-year ban on triathlete Wang
China's Asian Games triathlon gold medallist Wang Hong has been banned from competition for two years after failing an out-of-competition doping test, the International Triathlon Union (ITU) said, reports Reuters from Beijing.
Sappers enter title round
Madras Engineering Group (Bangalore) entered the men’s final of the Geojit Cup all-India invitational basketball tournament, reports PTI from Kochi. MEG got the better of ICF, Chennai, 60-53 in the semifinals. The winners led 28-27 at half time. Peter John top-scored for MEG with 24 points while Tinu Joseph poured in 13 points. In the women’s section, Central Railway entered the final beating South Western Railway 64-45.
IT raids on Gambhir’s family
The Income Tax department conducted raids on several premises owned by family members of cricketer Gautam Gambhir for alleged tax evasion, reports DHNS from New Delhi.
The search was conducted at six business and residential premises of the Gambhir family in Delhi, sources said.
Butt’s remarks invites ICC ire
Pakistan’s vice-captain, Salman Butt has been charged with a level two offence for criticising umpiring decisions at press conferences during the ongoing Test series against South Africa, reports PTI from Lahore.
Match referee Alan Hurst charged Butt with public criticism and inappropriate comment on a match related incident or match official. The penalty is a fine of 50 per cent of the player’s match fees or upto their full match fees and or a one Test or two one-day matches ban.
