It will be observed for nine days (Navaratri) in several parts of the State.
The main attraction of the festival is Mysore Dasara. An array of cultural programmes are being held on the occasion. The State political crisis may not dampen the spirit of the people to throng Mysore. While Ayudha Pooja is on October 20, Vijayadashmi is on the next day, which marks culmination of Navaratri.
In several parts of the State, including Bangalore, the traditional ‘Gombe Habba’, is celebrated as part of Dasara festivities. Various kinds of dolls - Channapatna dolls, clay dolls, porcelain dolls, etc - are displayed at homes. These dolls mostly depict the mythological characters. Of late, theme-based parks have become an integral part of Gombe Habba.
Smitha, an entrepreneur from Basavanagudi, says she has been adding new dolls to her collection every year. This year too, she has come out with a new theme to give a new dimension to the display.
She has a doll house which is designed by an artisan. It is a miniature form of a modern house. She feels children can easily relate to it. Besides, her doll display showcases themes like the ‘kirana store’ (provision store) to give an idea to children how shops were many years ago. The best attraction is a model railway station and a beauty pageant.
The temples in the City too are celebrating the festival by holding cultural programmes.
