Speaking to Deccan Herald, Karkala ASP Labhu Ramu said the boat was carrying six persons, including two local people.
The assailants arrived in two different native crafts, got into the boat hired by the scientists and took away the geo-physical survey instruments worth Rs 3 crore and threw them into the sea.
He said, “All the scientists have gone back to Vishakhapatnam. We are further probing the incident. We will be interrogating other two persons who were with the scientists from Panambur to get more information on the miscreants who attacked the scientists.”
Anti-Nagarujuna
DK Superintendent of Police Sathish Kumar said, “It is suspected that anti-Nagarjuna activists might have mistaken the scientists, to that of those who were involved in the survey work of Nagarjuna Thermal Power plant and might have assaulted them,” and added, “it will take another three days to identify the actual culprits.”
The FIR has been handed over to Padubidri police by the DK Superintendent of Police.
