Tata Motors' new Sumo Victa

Tata Motors, on Friday, in Mumbai, announced the launch of Sumo Victa Turbo DI, the new upgraded range of its entry-level utility vehicle — Sumo Spacio. The new range, fitted with a new 3-litre turbocharged DI engine, delivers improved fuel economy, higher power and torque, said a company press release.

The new engine develops maximum power and torque of 70 PS (at 3000 rpm) and 223 Nm (at 2200 rpm) respectively. This results in considerable improvement in overall performance and driveability.

TThe range comprises 4 trim levels – Cx, Lx, Ex and Gx in both BSII and BSIII emission compliance levels. The new Sumo Victa DI has been priced between Rs4.84 lakh & Rs.5.89 lakh, (ex-showroom Mumbai).


HDFC’s Q2 net up 40 per cent

HDFC Bank on Friday in Mumbai posted a 40.1 per cent growth in net profit at Rs 368.5 crore for the second quarter ended September 30, as against Rs 262.94 crore in the corresponding period last year.

The total income of the bank stood at Rs 2,845.1 crore, as compared to Rs 1,975.75 crore in the same period last fiscal, recording a growth of 44 per cent. For the half-year ended September 30, HDFC Bank earned a total income of Rs 5,486.8 crore, while net profit for H1 of FY08 was Rs 689.7 crore, up by 37 per cent over corresponding period of FY07.

Birla Sun Life infuses capital

The promoters of Birla Sun Life Insurance have infused an additional capital of Rs 100 crore into the capital base of the company. The company informed this on Friday in Mumbai. This enhances the company’s capital to Rs 877 crore as of 26 September, 2007. The additional infusion is as per the current IRDA guidelines and is in the ratio of 74:26 between the Aditya Birla Group and Sun Life Financial Inc respectively.

Rajesh Expo gets Rs 743 cr order

Rajesh Exports announced on Friday that it has bagged a order worth Rs 743 crore of gold jewellery from Gold Star Jewellery, Singapore. The order is for the latest range of designer jewellery developed by the company. The order is to be completed by January 30, 2008.

CII’s workshop in City on Oct 30

CII, Karnataka is organising a one day workshop for training co-ordinators on October 30, 2007 at Taj West End, Bangalore. The workshop will cover topics such as contribution of training and development to business, understanding change in organisations, managing information resources and evaluation techniques. Oracle to pay $17/share of BEA

Oracle Corporation on Friday confirmed that it delivered a letter to the Board of Directors of BEA Systems, Inc. on Tuesday in which Oracle proposed to acquire BEA for $17 per share in cash. The letter indicated that Oracle is prepared to proceed immediately to a process that leads to a definitive agreement.  This proposal is the culmination of Oracle’s repeated conversations with BEA’s management over the last several years, said the company.

Palador Pictures, Tata Sky tie-up  

Palador Pictures, which has bought legal rights of nearly 1,000 world cinema titles, announced on Friday an exclusive tie-up with Tata Sky. Award wining American, European and Asian films will be available on Tata Sky’s pay-per-view service, “Showcase”.  

Hero Honda’s 20 millionth bike

Hero Honda unveiled its 20 millionth motorcycle in New Delhi on Friday at an event attended by the company Chairman, Brij Mohan Lall and Pawan Munjal, MD & CEO, Hero Honda. To commemorate this achievement, Hero Honda also announced a campaign called “Hero Honda Country,” and also flagged off the “Hero Honda bike-a-thon” simultaneously from eight cities.

UST Technology’s new brand name

US Technlogy announced that it would market its services under the UST Global brand. This reflects the company’s mission to bring new standards of best shore IT sourcing and delivery services to enterprises throughout the global marketplace, the company said in California.

MSTC’s seminar on e-Commerce

MSTC, a Mini Ratna Category-1 PSU, on Friday organised a seminar on “e-Commerce, emerging trends & opportunities” in the City.

Eminent personalities including Joint Secretary, Ministry of Steel, Govt of India Dr Udai Pratap Singh, Southern Railway GM (FA & CAO) Dr S Ram Mohan, Coal India Marketing Director K Ranganath and MSTC CMD Malay Sengupta participated in the seminar. Speaking on the occasion, Mr Sengupta said, MSTC  would shortly launch an e-Shopping mall.
