What is the one thing that can make you stand apart from the rest? What is the one accessory that is more than a style statement? And finally what is the one accessory that is prized and precious? Bindu Gopal Rao checks out some of the latest high-end jewellery doing the rounds

Changing times and trends have seen a sea change in jewellery designs and trends. In fact today metals like platinum and coloured gold rule the roost. Omega, the world's most prestigious watchmaker, recently introduced its exquisite jewellery under the brand name Omega Fine Jewellery with four lines the ornate Omegamania, the ultra modern Griffes and the delicate Sedna and Aqua collections.  Says Omega Brand Ambassador Sonali Bendre Behl, "Omega's Fine Jewellery line displays the same elegance as Omega watches. Each piece that I have seen, be it rings, necklaces, earrings or even cufflinks, is a unique fusion of classy chic and technical quality. " Ganjam recently unveiled its Fire and Ice collection. Inspired by the senses and cajoled by the dexterity of emotions that blend two opposites and yet create a whole new dimension with an entirely different meaning, this is a connoisseur's delight. Says Tara Premsingh, Designer, Fire and Ice collection, "I have been inspired by the union of opposites, of the most potent elements of life Fire and Ice. In my mind, there is an overriding dream-like surrealism in the confluence of these opposites, where they are more powerful in each other's presence than they would be in their solitary existence. Fire and Ice blends together the glitter of gold with the lustre of Tahitian pearls in a unique confluence that includes the subtle shimmer of diamonds.

Explains Umesh Ganjam, Joint Managing Director, Ganjam, "Fire and Ice captures international trends where pearls have made a big come back. The collection includes necklaces, pendants, earrings, rings and wrist wear designed exclusively for the discerning jewellery buyer. ORRA's high-end collection is an amalgamation of classic style and understated elegance. Designed using the finest Belgian diamonds and other precious stones like rubies, emeralds and pearls, this collection is essentially targeted at the elite and super elite. A part of this collection consists of motifs adapted from traditional Indian embroideries used for bridal trousseaus.

Traditional patterns and motifs are witnessing resurgence, thus forming the inspiration of these collections. ORRA's high-end collection also includes an ornate line of beautifully handcrafted elaborate earrings. These long slender and intricate earrings are encrusted with prominent sized diamonds combined with precious stones like rubies, emeralds, and pearls with rubilites, corals, aquamarines etc. to add to the colour and vigour.
And if you prefer a one of its kind designer jewellery, check Mirari's range that is best defined by timeless elegance and contemporary designs. These are unique symphonies of diamonds and coloured jewels. "At Mirari we use the finest stones and highest quality diamonds set in 18k white and yellow gold. Utmost priority given is to the quality of stones and impeccable workmanship. Mirari's essence lies in the luxurious sophistication of its jewels. I have also created some signature jewellery pieces, which are emblematic of the mystical angel wings, which form a part of the Mirari identity," says Mira Jain, CEO & Head Designer, Mirari. Her debut collection has been inspired from the multitude colours of nature forms like animals, butterflies and flowers. There are also some signature jewellery pieces, which are emblematic of the mystical angel wings, which form a part of Mirari identity. "I love to work with the beauty and bounty of nature and its myriad colours.  I got inspired to create a very colourful yet classic look for Spring/Summer'07. The beauties of ocean have inspired my Fall/Winter 2007-08 collection that is being launched this month. The collection will let one make a fashion statement itself," she explains.

Trends

Commenting on the global trends in jewellery, Aparna Gujral, Manager Design, Ganjam says, "with global warming on everyone's mind, Nature has become an important source of inspiration for many designers globally. Period jewellery, especially those inspired by the 60s - 70s is a hot trend globally now. Concentric circles and large disc like medallions have made a huge comeback.  Colourful jewellery and thus colourful pearls are also very much in demand. The unusual metallic shades in Tahitian Pearls are complimentary to many skin types, and create a rage when designed effectively with diamonds!" Also with the onset of the wedding season, there are newer designs on offer. In ORRA's collection, prominent sized diamonds combined with precious stones like rubies, emeralds and south-sea pearls have been used.

This combination gives a very rich and regal feel to the jewellery that is deep rooted in tradition, making it very popular for bridal wear. In addition, ORRA also as collection of "all diamond" neckpieces and earrings inspired by a sense of understated elegant style.
