Security forces gunned down both the militants who had carried out a suicidal attack at battalion headquarters of CRPF at Boulevard Road here on Thursday evening. Three CRPF personnel were also injured in the gunfight.

Two heavily armed militants attempted to storm 144 bn headquarters of CRPF at Boulevard Road. They hurled grenades and fired from sophisticated weapons towards the CRPF personnel deployed in the headquarters. The fire was returned by the security personnel.  The whole area was cordoned off by CRPF and police personnel, and they launched a joint operation to flush out the militants.

In the operation which lasted till Friday morning, both the militants were killed. In the exchange of fire, three CRPF personnel were also injured.

Director general of police (DG) Kuldip Khuda identified the slain militants as Abu Hashim and Abu Zahid of Lashkar-e-Toiba militant group.

The 3-day unilateral ceasefire announced by Kashmiri militants began on Friday. It has been announced in view of Eid. However, J&K ignored the militant cease fire and preferred not to respond. Police said the operations against ultras would continue.
