Roger Federer, the world number one, will complete his preparations for next year’s Australian Open at the Kooyong Classic from January 9-12. Defending Kooyong champion Andy Roddick and Russian Marat Safin will also take part in the eight-man round-robin event, organisers have said.

Marvan Atapattu, the former Sri Lankan captain, is likely to return to the team for the forthcoming Test series in Australia, beginning in November. Atapattu had recently lashed out at the selectors, saying he had no faith in them, but Sri Lanka’s one-day series loss to England is likely to hasten his return.
