Thimmaiah leads SAI goal glut

Nikin Thimmaiah scored four goals (2nd, 6th,15th and 35th) and Naveen Patil netted three (45th, 52nd, 60th) as SAI ‘C’ trounced Naveen HC 15-0 in the DS Murthy & V Karunakaran Memorial hockey tournament on Friday.

Md Nayeemuddin (11th, 13th), Biju (21st, 50th) Muthanna (51st, 53rd) Deepak (9th) and Poonacha (23rd) were the other scorers for the winners.

SAI ‘C’, MEG Boys ‘B’ and Naveen HC ‘B’ have qualified for Phase II.

Other results:  SAI ‘B’: 1 (Aswin, 40th) bt RBI: 0 
SBMJC: 3 (Bopanna 7th, Puneeth 25th, Charmanna 32nd) bt Flying HC: 1 (Dharmendra 22nd).

Balaji finishes top of the heap

Balaji Reddy clinched the 31st Junior State-ranking snooker title after finishing top of the heap in the semifinal league at the KSBA Hall. Balaji pushed Amit Bhushan to the second spot.

Meanwhile, Deepak, Michael Rebello, Balaji Reddy and Sohail Jairaj qualified to play in the 38th Senior Karnataka State-ranking snooker tournament beginning on October 15.

The foursome will join the top eight players in the State in the league championship after all of them recorded victories in the qualifying rounds.

Results: Senior snooker, qualifying round: Deepak bt C Ravindranath 4-1 (3-58, 52-12, 56-3, 58-45, 65-26); Michael Rebello bt Rehman 4-2 (65-48, 75-44, 34-62, 52-19, 37-55, 69-47); Balaji Reddy bt Kushal Agarwal 4-2 (58-26, 61-63, 51-32, 81-14, 2-73, 91-20); Sohail Jairaj bt Satish 4-0 (69-52, 77-29, 63-21, 54-35).
Junior snooker, semifinal league: Balaji Reddy bt Manju Kiran 4-1 (72-20, 26-60, 72-37, 72-2, 98-42); Amit Bhushan bt Md Ali 4-2 (69-26, 64-16, 43-71, 11-52, 43-10, 58-51).
Final standings: Balaji Reddy 1; Amit Bhushan 2; Md Ali 3; Manju Kiran 4.

HASC post easy victory

Uma Shankar scored a match high 26 points as HASC beat NAL Colony 57-30 in the inaugural match of the State ‘A’ Division basketball league at the Sri Kanteerava stadium on Friday. ASC defeated Sports Hostel 79-39 in the other match of the day.

Results: HASC: 57 (Uma Shankar 26, Kevin 10) bt NAL Colony: 30 (Siddarth 10). HT: 30-9; ASC: 79 (Dharampal 12, Gautham 10, Nixon 10) bt Sports Hostel: 39 (Varun MR 18, Jairaj 10). HT: 40-19.

Karthik, Wagle star in MSRIT win

V Vijay Karthik took four for 31 and Tejas A Wagle made 51 as MSRIT defeated BIT by four wickets in the final of the 10th MS Ramaiah memorial inter-engineering colleges cricket tournament.

Opting to bat, BIT were bowled 162, Bharath Kumar V top-scoring with 37. In response, MSRIT reached 165 for six, Sandeep Murthy remaining unbeaten on 42.

Brief scores: BIT: 162 all out in 44.3 overs (Bharath Kumar V 37; V Vijay Karthik 4-31, Sourajeet 2-23, Karan Tandon 2-40, Pavan G 2-19) lt to MSRIT: 165/6 in 40 overs (Tejas A Wagle 51, Karan Tandon 31, Sandeep Murthy 42 n.o.; Vikram Gowda 3-30).

SBMJC clinch cricket title

Sree Bhagawan Mahaveer Jain College, Degree, defeated their PUC counterparts by nine wickets to bag the BHS FGC invitational inter-collegiate cricket tournament on Friday.

Electing to bat, SBMJC, PUC could garner only 155. Abrar Kazi top scored for them with 40. D U Anish was the wrecker in chief as he grabbed four wickets for 32 runs.

The winners had little trouble in overhauling the target in just 22.3 overs. Sadiq Kirmani made an unbeaten 84, while S Vinodh remained not out on 54.

Brief scores: SBMJC, PUC: 155 all out in 37.5 overs (Abrar Kazi 40; D U Anish 4-31) lt to SBMJC, Degree: 156/1 in 22.3 overs (Sadiq Kirmani 84 n.o; S Vinodh 54 n.o; Abrat Kazi 1-17).

Ponnappa stars for Vijaya Bank

Shyam Ponnappa’s 65 helped Vijaya Bank beat HAL by eight wickets to enter the semifinals of the Indutries cricket tournament on Friday.

Brief scores: HAL: 136 all out in 22 overs (BK Kumar 36, Gajendra 35; Iyyappa 3-25) lt to Vijaya Bank; 140/2 in 18 overs (Shyam Ponnappa 65, Shasidhar 52).

BEML (C): 120 all out in 24 overs (J Nagaraj 30; Patil 3-25) lt to RWF: 122/0 in 18 overs (Shahid 65, Mukesh 52).
BHEL (EDN): 147/6 in 30 overs (Shivakumar 59, Jagadish 32; Rammohan 3-22) lt to BEML (C): 151/2 in 21 overs (Madhukumar 96 n.o).

Vehicles, MICO share honours

Vehicles Football Club played out a 1-1 draw with MICO Sports Club in the ‘C’ Division football league at the Malleswaram Corporation Stadium on Friday.

Corporate football meet

SportzVillage will conduct a five-a-side corporate football tournament at St John’s Medical College, Koramangala on November 17, 18, 24, 25 and Dec 1. A maximum of 48 teams will be accommodated on a first-cum-first serve basis.
