Gynaecologist Pushpanjali Mali Patil has found her name in the Guinness Book of World Records for removing a tumour weighing about 30 kg from the uterus of a 45-year-old labourer nearly two years ago at Opec Hospital here.
Dr Patil had operated Mahadevamma of Deodurga taluk and removed the tumour during a five-hour operation on December 21, 2005. The tumour has been preserved in the museum of OPEC hospital (Rajiv Gandhi Superspeciality Hospital) hospital here.
Earlier record stood in the name of a gynaecologist from Indore, who had removed 10.33 kg tumour.
According to sources, the weight of the woman, who was 65 kg, had dropped to 31 kg after the surgery.
However, she had recovered fast and now she is working as a labourer in Bangalore. The Guinness book authorities have sent a certificate acknowledging the doctor’s achievement.
