Inequality, casteism still persists in informed society: Baraguru
DH News Service, Kolar:
Inequality and casteist tendencies are on the rise in the country, as the number of educated people are increasing by the day, said Kannada Development Authority former president Baraguru Ramachandrappa

Inequality and casteist tendencies are on the rise in the country, as the number of educated people are increasing by the day, said Kannada Development Authority former president Baraguru Ramachandrappa.

He was speaking at the inauguration of Vijaya Sambhrama programme held in memory of late C Byre Gowda in Kolar on Saturday at T Chinnaiah auditorium under the aegis of Kolar Samskruthi Prathishtana.

The knowledge acquired instead of being used as a weapon should render an individual humble and humane, only then an India based on equality can be created Moreover, in our country a section of the people are misleading the people by misrepresenting our Indian culture.

Only when there is a movement in culture can we call it as our own. Also, culture is not bound by any caste or creed, observed Mr Ramachandrappa. A belief in dashavathara is not necessary to profess one’s faith, what is essential is to act according to one’s own conscience, which is the true religion. Some  have limited religion to Ramayana and are thus colouring the emotions of the multitude. However, no one individual or a group of people can have a complete control over religion, which is more a way of living, he warned.

In our country pseudo religious and casteist people are on the rise. One who realises  god in himself is a true devotee. If the public and people in all spheres of life do not question themselves with regard to the economic, social and political problems that is plaguing the country, then a strong and developed nation cannot be built, he observed.

Dasara is symbolic of the fine  blend between monarchy and democracy. However, the celebration of Dasara came into being when there was a widespread drought and in order to over come  it prayers were offered to Linga.

Dasara was being celebrated at the fag end of Vijayanagar dynasty rule and the Wodeyars of Mysore later adopted the celebration of this festival. Moreover, Dasara is not a Nadahabba, it was primarily a folk festival. After it was celebrated in a systematic manner in 1610, it has continued to be celebrated till now. Also, on this occasion cine actor Dr Jayamala was felicitated. After receiving the honour she said that though nearly 65 per cent of the women are labouring only 5 per cent of them are getting incomes.
