CHESS / National U-9 tourney
State lads stay on top
DH News Service, Bangalore:
Nine players shared the lead in the boys' section after the fourth round of the Yahoo co-sponsored 21st National under-9 chess championship at the St Joseph's Composite College here on Sunday.

Nine players, including Karnataka’s Akshay Bharadwaj and M Satvik, shared the lead in the boys’ section after the fourth round of the Yahoo co-sponsored 21st National under-9 chess championship at the St Joseph's Composite College here on Sunday. The leaders have a perfect score of four points each.

On the top board in the boys’ section, Diptayan Ghose of West Bengal defeated Ashwat P Hari of TN to be among the leaders.

Diptayan played with white pieces and black went for a Hedge Hog Opening. The two players were on equal terms in the middlegame.

However, a wrong move by Ashwat by bringing the king outside late in the middlegame was exploited by Diptayan and he emerged winner.

Karnataka's Akshay defeated TN's Anshuman K, while Satvik scored over State-mate Anantharam RU.
