Beary litterateurs have demanded the government to place an administrator to decide on the office-bearers of Beary Sahithya Academy that was approved recently by the state government.
Addressing a news conference on Monday, senior litterateur Mohammad Badoor said that recently an organisation sent a list to the government suggesting the names for the post of president and office bearers of the academy.
In this politically motivated list, he said that the names of those who had toiled and struggled to make sahithya academy a reality were not included.
Condemning this move, Mr Badoor said that when people like Ibrahim Tannirbavi, Rahim B C Road and Samshuddin Madikeri brought out cassettes of Beary poems about 30 years ago, these people who are now vying positions in the academy had rebuked and rediculed them.
He said that certain organisations are congratulating former minister B A Moideen and Kannada Development Authority former president Idinabba that Academy is being established due to their efforts.
“B A Moideen and Idinabba have certainly not done anything for Beary literature at all. If this was the case then academy should have been established during Moideen’s tenure. Hence they cannot claim any credit for the setting up of the academy,” he added.
Hence he suggested that the academy must have people who have considerably contributed for the development of beary literature.
“It must have writers, researchers, journalists and those people who are fluent in beary language, no matter from which community they hail from. Only this patter of membership can result in the development of academy,” he added. He said that only eligible people must be given opportunity to head and look after the academy while opportunist people must be kept away.
Beary poet Basheer Kinya and columnist J Hussain were present at the news conference.
