The sand which has got deposited in the 150 metre long jetty in the fishing area has caused apprehension among the fishermen here. Only few months have passed since the inaugural of the new port, but due to high tide in the sea, sand has got deposited in the new jetty area.
Before inaugurating the new port, dredging work was undertaken in the 400 metre long jetty area. However, as an estuary is located very close to the jetty, it facilitates sand deposits.
The tyres used in the new jetty have broken away and as a result, the boats that come here straightaway hit the jetty. This causes damage to both the boats as well as the jetty. Moreover, the old jetty has got completely damaged, thus the fishermen are in a fix.
In order to solve the problem of sand deposits, a ‘T’ must be constructed in the estuary area. This will also help in anchoring the boats, fishermen said. Now it is fishing season and the situation in estuary too is conducive.
Hence people’s representatives and concerned officers must look into the issue and solve the problem, fishermen demanded.
