Kuvempu gave a new dimension to the minor characters in the Ramayana in his epic masterpiece Ramayana Darshanam. Characters varying from a farmer to different sections of people in society have been portrayed by Kuvempu in his work . He has successfully shown a new way of life to man in his all encompassing works, said C N Nanjundappa
Speaking at the Sahitya Souraba organised by Kannada Sahitya Parishat at Ranganatha swami temple premesis, he opined that Kuvempu occupies a top spot among the poets.
S Yoganand president of the Parishat’s taluk branch who inaugurated the function said that there are many folk songs and art forms which are innate to the people of rural areas.
Songs which are sung on special occasion like Beeso hadu, Sobana hadu, Suggi hadu, Jariyuva hadu and many other have attained the form of best literature which is unparalleled even in the works of greatest writers. These oral literature was passed on from one generation to another and should be preserved, urged Yoganand.
He opined that literature which is in book form like novels, poems and dramas are not the only form of literature. The oral literature is also a important literature.
Litterateur K Byrappa who presided over the said that Parishat has not confined itself to the city and has spread even to the rural level. He said Parishat’s work is commendable.
He opined that if Kuvempu’s works were translated to English it would have earned Nobel prize. Later a bhajan was performed by Mudalaiah and team.
