'Nuclear deal effects country's sovereignty'
DH News Service, Kolar:

The sovereignty of the country would be severely effected if Nuclear Deal is implemented between India and America, said CPI (M) State Secretary G N Nagaraj here.

Speaking after inaugurating the district conference to oppose the Nuclear deal between India and America which was organised at T Chennaiah Auditorium on Monday in the city, he warned that the deal would be a big blow upon the country’s defence, agriculture, education, Judiciary and other systems.

A joint committee has been formed representing the corporate bodies to develop bilateral trade relationships, whereas this is not much advantageous for the country, he observed.

This will again make the country be under the control of America for 40 years as slaves, as there is a possibility that America would take every region under its hold during this period, he accused.

Member of Legislative Assembly G V Srirama Reddy speaking on the occasion said that only six per cent of Power would be generated in the country as against what the Congress says that if the Nuclear deal is signed generation of Power would increase.

On the other hand, even the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh also says that if the agreement is implemented, each and every village would be provided power is not true, the MLA added.

As per expert opinion, the power generated through Nuclear power would cost around Rs 5.5 per unit which when reaches the customer would turn out to be Rs 11 per unit, which will cost very heavy for the people in our country, he stated.

He also said that Rs 360 crore would be spent to purchase 40 nuclear reactors. Questioning Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s move in this regard, he said that in 2005, Mr Manmohan Singh had signed an agreement neglecting farmer’s welfare which had in turn took away the rights of the farmers to sow seeds and which had given crores of profit to Monsato company leading to farmers suicide, he added.

He also called on the public to oppose the implementation of Nuclear deal by protesting against it throughout the country. State Committee member Gandhinagar Narayanaswamy presided over the function.

Thousands of CPI (M) activists from districts participated in the conference.
