“The draw had to be conducted because both of us were deemed as equals by party chairman P J Joseph and a selection had to be made. But I thought it would be the usual draw where you mix several names and pick the winner. I didn’t know that it would be a “best of three” as it turned out to be,” he told newsmen here. As reported, the names of Mr Pillai and Mr Mons were scribbled on six slips each, along with three slips of zeros and the draw was held. Mons was chosen after his representative picked up only one of the three zeros.
Pillai however said he offered his full support to Mons who was quite eligible to become the minister.
The revelation has come as a slap in the face for Mons Joseph, who continues to claim that no draw was held as reported. Having become the butt of ridicule for drawing lots, Mr P J Joseph has also been evasive, calling it an internal matter of the party.
The party leadership and the ministerial incumbent are both being seen as lying to cover up loss of face.
The Kerala Congress (J), a constituent of the ruling LDF, had been in trouble right from the word go in the present LDF ministry.
