BBMP Commissioner Dr S Subramanya, on Tuesday, handed over cheque of Rs 3 crore to Centre for Rehabilitation of Beggars on Magadi Road.
As per the Karnataka Prohibition of Beggary Act 1975 three per cent of total property tax collected by the urban local body should go towards rehabilitation of beggars.
The Palike has been collecting three per cent of the proper tax as beggary cess from the property owners.
Including Rs 3 crore handed over on Tuesday, the Palike has paid Rs 8 crore to the centre in the financial year 2007-08.
