A total of 79,392 persons have been registered under the Yashaswini Scheme and an amount of Rs 96.78 lakh has been deposited in the Yashaswini Trust in the year 2007-08, said Deputy Commissioner M Maheshwar Rao.
Speaking at a press meet organised on Tuesday, he said though a target was set to register 1,50,000 members, the total registration came upto 79,392 which included 26,372 new registrations and 53,020 renewal of registration.
In the year 2006-07, a total of 60,148 new members were included in the scheme wherein Rs 69.77 lakh was collected. In the same year, an amount of Rs 80.01 lakh was spent for covering surgery costs of 617 beneficiaries.
In fact, the expenditure was more than the amount collected. From July 1, 2007 to September 30, 2007, a total of 314 beneficiaries underwent surgery, with the cost pegged at Rs 28.82 lakh. In the year 2007-08, 77,907 applications were received by Yashaswini Trust to avail identity cards. Out of this, 42,478 applications have been accepted and the process of distributing the same has already begun, he added.
The Yashaswini co-operative farmers’ health scheme which has complete four successful years is a model scheme implemented in the State. The scheme which is meant to ensure health of villagers and help them avail modern medical facilities requires the beneficiary to become a member of the co-operative association six months in advance and pay Rs 120 on a yearly basis. The beneficiary will be provided an identity card and the card will be accepted in selected hospitals which come under the Yashaswini Scheme.
Roads
With regard to roads which have been damaged due to rains, the DC assured that the repair works will begin within a month. The discussion is still on with regard to the new vented dam, he added. Apex Bank President M N Rajendra Kumar was also present.
