“By listening to the grievances of the people, we are trying to reach out to the people,” said Mangalore Lokayukta SP (in-charge) Ishwarachandra Vidyasagar.
Addressing a press meet here on Tuesday, after listening to the grievances of the people in Mangalore, he said Lokayukta DySP will listen to the grievances of the people on October 19 at Sullia, October 22 at Bantwal and October 25 at Puttur between 10.30 am and 2.30 pm. Every Lokayukta SP, DySP and Inspector should hold grievances meeting in district and taluk headquarters frequently, he added.
He said that he has received nine grievances on Tuesday. Till date, Lokayukta has received 78 grievances in Dakshina Kannada district. Mr Vidyasagar said in DK, two persons have been trapped while receiving bribe and two officials’ houses have been raided in 2007.
Stating that in Mysore as many as 17 corruption cases have been booked, he said most of the time it was against gazetted officers. Of the 17 cases, six have been convicted this year itself.
To a query on why the number of corruption cases less in DK, he said “we can not undertake raid unless we get a written complaint. It all depends on the attitude of the people of a particular region.”
To another query on the raid conducted on the houses of two officials from MCC, he said “we have issued notices to them questioning the sources of the property. We are waiting for their reply.”
