The Vandagadde Tribal colony in the taluk is devoid of basic amenities and mirrors the apathy of the government.
About 13 families of a tribal community reside in this colony and one or two Vokkaliga and Madivala families too reside here.
Most of the families depend on agriculture for their livelihood. None of the houses here have toilets and most of the families reside in thatched huts. The families depend on the stream flowing from a nearby hill for drinking purpose and in summer, they face severe scarcity of water.
In fact, people have to walk 2 to 3 furlong to fetch drinking water. Though a trough can be constructed to collect water and supply the same using a pipe, the gram panchayat has not given any thought on this, villagers complained.
There are no roads to the colony and no transport facility. They have to walk for five kms to reach Agalagandi for buying daily necessities and ration items. In order to get medicines, the residents have to walk upto Jayapura which is located 15 kms away from the colony. There are over 30 children in Vandagadde Colony and nearby Kundukere, but no anganwadi has been set up for them.
Manjunath (13), son of Boggu and Susheela couple is disabled and his limbs lack mobility. However, this family has not received any help from the government. Similarly, Sumitra (20), daughter of Sundari is disabled, but failed to get any facilities from the government. Though the Agalagandi-Hedse-Uttameshwar road near the colony is damaged, asphaltation has not been done.
