Our family doesn’t have the tradition of displaying Dasara dolls. For us, Ayudha Pooja is the biggest festival. We worship all machinery, equipment, even kitchen utensils— knives etc. On Ayudha Pooja, my wife cooks a yummy meal and I am looking forward to it.

I am studying for my exams right now. So, there is no time for grand celebration as such! But yes, my grandmother used to observe all the rituals and on a big scale. We all used to enjoy that.

We celebrated Navaratri when we were kids. Mom, a Carnatic singer, used to invite guests and there used to be musical evenings. Among the dolls, we kept Vishnu’s Dashavatara, a marriage procession, Happy Man and dancer dolls. I was mesmerised. Sadly, we don’t celebrate much now.
HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT GIFT
*Pay attention to what your recipients really want or need.
*Consider how you would explain why you chose a gift for someone. Gifts should have some meaning. And you should know what it is.
*Make sure the gift is an appropriate one coming from you.
*If you can afford them, two things that almost always go over well are jewellery and cars.
*Want to make a gift an investment? Contribute to a child's education or a spouse's retirement fund. Now that really sends a message that you do care.
*Decide what you're going to buy before you go into a store. Impulse buys are often not really what the recipient wants or needs.
