No New Schemes To Be Undertaken
New Delhi, Oct. 16.


Ceilings on foreign exchange commitments and steel requirements of the development plans for 1958-59 are indicated in the directives which the Planning Commission has given to Central Ministries and State governments
in formulating their proposals.

In accordance with a proposal approved by the Standing Committee of the National Development Council at its meeting on September 14 and 15 last, it has been suggested to the States that they should tentatively start work on the development programmes for 1958-59.

Statutory Force For Wage Board Awards
New Delhi, Oct. 16

State Labour Ministers, who concluded their 14th conference here this evening, recommended today that the decisions of Wage Boards for Industries should have statutory force and that State governments should be empowered to enforce the decisions.

Detenus Refuse To Come Out Of Jails
Chandigarh, Oct 16

Akali prisoners today resisted their eviction from jails at a number of places while authorities resorted to tear-gassing in Kapurthala Jail to flush out Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale’s followers.
An official report said a few policemen were injured in the incident. The hourly morchas for courting arrest began at 11 am soon after Akali Dal President Sant Harchand Singh Longowal had announced that the Akali Dal’s agitation would continue.

Over 25,000 volunteers courted arrest in the State by this evening.
