The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Tuesday threatened legal action against National television channel 'Doordarshan' for infringement of media rights by exceeding the telecast timing of match highlights during the ongoing India-Australia series.
"It has been observed that during the ongoing seven-match one-day series between India and Australia, some National news channel are showing large amount of match clips," a BCCI press release said.
"The National news channel has been showing match clips amounting to as much as 150 to 200 minutes in only 24 hours, a bulk of these clips are shown when the match is on."
The BCCI said the large number of match clips had resulted in "huge losses" and it would have no option but to take legal action.
"Showing the large number of match clips leads to infringements of our media rights which results in huge loss and irreparable damage and we shall have no other option but to take legal action," it said.
As per the international norms, every channel will only be allowed to air a maximum of 2 minutes of clips, with each clip being no longer than 30 seconds.
For the Twenty 20 game, to be played on October 20, SNTV will be the exclusive licensee for all BCCI news syndication globally. All channels and news organisations will have to sign contracts with SNTV.
