Raja, Sudhir star in CoE victory

Honesh Raja and Sudhir struck a brace apiece as Centre of Excellence (CoE) outclassed Naveen HC 6-0 in a Phase II match of the DS Murthy & V Karunakaran memorial hockey tournament at the KSHA stadium on Tuesday.

Veer Singh’s strike in the 17th minute opened up the floodgates for CoE. Raja scored his first goal in the 21st minute before Sudhir got his name on the scoresheet, two minutes later. Raja then scored again in the 27th minute as CoE took a 4-0 lead at the breather.

Upon resumption, CoE had to wait till the 52nd minute before Sudhir found the target for a second time, and Dinesh Kumar rounded off the entertainment in the 56th.

Other scores: Postal: 4 (Prakash Chalke 4th, 28th, Adarsh Ganapathy 25th, Samuel 35th) bt BSNL: 3 (Nazim Bepari 9th, OE Thimmaiah, Praful Kujur 43rd).

AIT women clinch throwball title

Dr Ambedkar Institute of Technology women defeated BMS College of Engineering 2-1 to clinch the throwball title in the VTU inter-engineering college throwball tournament organised by Bahubal College of Engineering, Shravanabelagola last week.

Bhushan edges out Bhaskar

Ajay Bhushan edged out B Bhaskar 4-3 in the 38th Senior State-ranking snooker tournament at the KSBA hall on Tuesday.

‘A’ Division v’ball league

The 14th Senior ‘A’ Division volleyball league championship for men will be held at the Lalbahadur Shastri I Grade College grounds in Sultanpalya from October 28 to November 11. In all, 14 teams will battle it out for top honours. The league will serve as a selection trial to pick the State men’s team for the Senior Nationals to be held in Jaipur from December 23, 2007 to January 1, 2008.

The teams are: KSP, CIL, ASC, MEG, ITI, BEL, Sports Hostel, SAI, HMT, Postal, LIC, AGORC, BSNL (all Bangalore) and South Western Railway (Hubli).

Minerva down B’lore Yellows

Minerva got the better of Bangalore Yellows 3-1 in the ‘C’ Division football league at the Malleswaram Corporation ground on Tuesday.

Kishore put Minerva ahead in the 18th minute but Zaid restored parity for Yellows with a 26th minute strike. Udesh struck for Minerva five minutes before the break to put them 2-1 ahead while Hemanth extended the lead in the 68th minute.

Aditya to train in Indonesia

Karnataka junior champion Aditya Prakash will train in Surabaya (Indonesia) for a month. The 17-year-old will train at the Suryanaga Club, where top Indonesian players Taufik Hidayat and Soni Dwi Kuncoro have trained.
Aditya will be under Hadi Sugiyanto, who was the Indian doubles coach for two years. Aditya, a trainee of Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy, will leave for Indonesia on Wednesday.

Kodava Cup from Oct 29

Bharat Electronics Sports Club will conduct the Kodava Cup annual hockey tournament from October 29 at the Dr Ambedkar stadium, Jalahalli.
