Preliminary rounds in sports events like weight lifting, swimming, kho-kho, volleyball, handball, athletics, shotput, high jump, gymnastics, football, ball badminton, hockey, basket ball, tennis, table tennis and body building and final events in some, a seminar on cinema as part of film festival and painting oleography exhibition of Raja Ravi Varma’s works at Rangayana were among the highlights of Dasara on Day Three at the City of Palaces.
A dress rehearsal of the air show that is scheduled for Wednesday, felicitation to folk artiste Mallanna Shankarappa Nagaral at Rangayana, the Palace that reverberated to the pyrotechnics of percussion artistes led by Bangalore’s T A S Mani in the ‘tala vadya’ kutcheri, besides folk dance, dragon dance, lamp dance, folk dance and musical dance by Naresh Iyer and troupe at ‘Yuva Dasara’ added spice to the festivities that is brimming with the colours of life, and has picked up tempo now.
Sripathi Padigar of Hubli and troupe also presented a Hindustani vocal concert at the Palace.
Folk music
A folk music recital and Odissi dance by Sharmila Mukherjee at the Jaganmohan Palace entertained the audience.
Bharatanatya programmes at the Kalamandir, Ummattata and a drama at the Town Hall, besides, folk, theatre, music and dance performances at other venues completed the day’s cultural pot pourri.
