Brahmarishi Murali Krishna Swamigal was born on October 3, 1979 in a village called Sreekrishnapuram in Palakkad district to Smt Lakshmi Ammal and the late Sri Krishnankutty Gupthan. He is the eighth son of the blessed couple. Born into a poor family and suffering many privations in his childhood, he worked very hard to maintain his family. He exhibited several unquestionable signs of His divinity from his early years.
He is widely regarded as an avatar (divine incarnation) of Lord Murugan, (Lord Subramanya). Swami Murali Krishna is a Satguru, (a living master). His explicit mission lies in providing spiritual upliftment to under-privileged sections of global society by engaging the needs, pains, aspirations and challenges of students, farmers, laborers, teachers, merchants, not to speak of all classes of modern society who do have either the means or the time to perform make sacrificial offerings to their respective deities.
His vision is global not local, His language is that of the heart and not the head and His mission is spiritual and yet deeply and profoundly practical: "What saves us in times of trouble is faith. Rituals and rites do not constitute the foundation of our lives. It is love alone that can. If we are united in love, it is possible to save ourselves."
Satguru Murali Krishna's teachings are profoundly instructive. Words are his melody, love is his language, and compassion, his grammar: "Life is only a journey. Nature provides us with four vehicles to complete this journey. They include mother, father, Guru and God. The mother provides the vehicle, father provides the petrol, the Guru paves the road and God is the driver." It is important to cultivate the mentality of a child because wherever there is a childlike sound, "I am present there."
Scriptures are no guarantee of securing salvation. It is important to practice the insights contained in them: "One does not get salvation by reading the Bible or the Gita. We should endeavor to become better persons.
We should attempt to practice what is contained in these holy books. We should try and create a world that is in consonance with our conscience." Finally: "We do not need to become either God or His prophet. It is important to spread self-knowledge. If we radiate the knowledge residing in us, we become prophets. I am not God; I am only a pretext to reveal the path to God."
