NH 206, a curse on people of Tiptur
From M Gangadharappa, DH News Service, Tiptur:
The highway which passes through the middle of Tiptur city is in a pathetic condition and calls for immediate repair and maintenance work.

Tiptur town in Tumkur district remains a city only in the revenue records. However, in comparison to Tumkur this city is more active on the economic front. Also, Tiptur city looks beautiful with its coconut groves and has its own educational and cultural richness. Now, Tiptur is a CMC.

Tiptur is famous for its copra, education, culture and human values not only in the State  but also in other states. However, the National Highway 206 that passes through the central region of Tiptur has proved to be a curse.Excluding the Tumkur region, the Bangalore-Honnavar highway cuts through the Tiptur region.

Double road

Though the idea of extending this highway and converting it into a double road within the premises of Gubbi city has been conceived of since a long time, then  what is the hindrance in extending this highway that cuts through the Tiptur cit, ask the citizens.

Pathetic condition

This highway which passes through the mid of Tiptur city is in a pathetic condition and calls for immediate repair and maintenance work.

Part of the national highway 206, which is nearly a 6 km stretch and extends between Bandihalli gate and Madihalli iron bridge is replete with potholes and the asphalt of the road is non-existent. Moreover, the 2 km road from the Kerekodi circle to the bus stop is just 15 ft wide.

Of the 15 ft wide road, the vehicles ply on 10 ft of the road and the remaining 5 ft of the stretch is taken by two drainages on either side. In this context, where can the pedestrians walk ? The concerned officials are answerable to this situation. Thus, the pedestrians are forced to walk in the midst of thick vehicular movement.

This national highway serves as the main road for the government hospital, offices, schools and colleges.Instead of serving as a national highway, it is serving the purpose of a link road between the 31 wards.
