Police have arrested two persons in connection with the counterfeit currency in Mangalore on Tuesday.
According to police, the arrested have been identified as Rafeeq Ul Hassan (40) and Jiya Ul Haq, hailing from West Bengal.
Acting on a tip off, the police lead by Vinay Gaonkar conducted a raid and arrested the duo near Kulyadikar’s shop on K S Rao Road while trying to circulate the same. They have confiscated 22 counterfeit currencies with a face value of Rs 1,000 and 43 counterfeit currencies with a face value of Rs 500. The arrested revealed that these currencies were given to them by two persons for a commission of 30 per cent.
House break
Some unidentified gained entry into a house and decamped with gold worth Rs 7 lakh at Pilya village in Venoor in Belthangady taluk.
According to police, the house belonged to Gafoor. The incident occurred when all the family members were sleeping and the incident came to light when they woke up in the morning for namaaz.
A case has been registered.
