Musical divertimento
The Bangalore School of Music presents a special musical evening titled ‘Musical Divertimento,’ a concert featuring the reputed faculty of the Bangalore School of Music. The concert will take place on October 20, at 7 p.m at the Alliance Francaise.

    The faculty of the Bangalore School of Music have emerged as fine performing artistes over the years and have presented innumerable concerts. They have come together for the Musical Divertimento concert to present a programme from the classical repertoire specially for Bangalore’s music lovers.

The flute and piano duo of Paulette DeMello and Rebecca Thomas play Sonatas by Blavet, Ravel and Bach, while virtuoso Violinist Carol George (now a member of the National Symphony Orchestra of India) performs pieces that are universally appealing.  Rebecca, the versatile and popular pianist, is the accompanist.

The BSM String Quartet — with Amy Phillips from the UK, Noel Gerard, Carol George and Cellist Ashis Biswas (who has just returned from a Concert Tour of Japan), will play Mozart’s String Quartet No 13 and the Monti’s ever popular Czardas.

Donor cards for the concert, in aid of the Music Outreach Program for Underprivileged Children are available at the Bangalore School of Music, the Alliance Francaise and at the Dockers Exclusive Stores at Brigade Road and 100 ft Road, Indiranagar.

Retro music
The Bangalore Music Group is an eclectic group of admen, a cosmonaut, writers, IT pros, BPO honchos, animation gurus and talented amateur musicians, all united by their collective passion for good music.

   The group is all set to recreate the path breaking sounds of the 60’s and 70’s, eras renowned for its style and originality. The song list includes some of the biggest chartbusters in rock and roll history like the Beatles, CCR, Eric Clapton, Shirley Bassey , Elvis Presley among others

The evening also features stand up comedy interludes by “Sandy Gandy” of Bungalow, Australia, formerly Sandra Aranha of Richmond Town, Bangalore. Some of the members of the Bangalore Music Group include Ken Gnanakan, Rakesh Malhotra, Vijayan Menon, Biren and Ragini Ghosh, Ajit Saldanha, Priya Singh, Natty, Santosh G and a few others.

The event will take place on October 20 at The Taj Gateway, Gardenside Hall. Tickets priced at Rs 999 include entertainment, dinner and cocktails. Call: 66604545

Poetry reading
Toto Funds the Arts is organising a reading by the poets Sridala Swami, from her recently-published debut collection A Reluctant Survivor (Sahitya Akademi) and Anindita Sengupta, from her recent work. The event will take place at Crossword Bookstore, ACR Towers, Ground Floor, 32 Residency Road on October 18 at 7 pm.
Sridala Swami, a film editor from the FTII, Pune, has edited documentaries, short features and commercials. Her poetry has been published in the online journals Nthposition and MuseIndia, and in Chandrabhaga, The Little Magazine, New Quest and Wasafiri (forthcoming, Winter 2007). Her first collection of poems, A Reluctant Survivor, was published by The Sahitya Akademi in June 2007. Swami lives in Hyderabad and writes poetry and fiction.
Anindita Sengupta is a 29-year-old freelance writer and journalist. She is interested in development, gender rights and new media. Her poetry has appeared in the online journals MuseIndia, Talking Poetry and an anthology published by Delhi Poetree.

TNT Cup
TNT, express distribution company, is organising corporate cricketing tournament. The matches will be played in the 20-20 format and will start from October 20.

This year, 32 premier corporate teams will fight for the coveted ‘TNT Cup Trophy’. After a slew of 63 exciting matches, it will end with finals in the first week of December, at the Chinnaswamy stadium, Bangalore.
The participating teams include leading corporates like infosys, ANZ, HP, Mindtree. The matches will be played in a league cum knockout format.

The teams will be divided into eight groups, each comprising of four teams. TNT India will apply a scientific rating system to the entire tournament for a judicious competition. Alongside the final winners of the TNT cup, the best batsman and best bowler of the tournament will also be adjudged. The tournament also supports the United Nations’ World Food Programme.
