Diamonds worth Rs 5 crore were stolen from south Mumbai’s Pancharatna building, the largest diamond hub in India, police said on Wednesday.
They said burglars bro-ke into the fifth floor of Arshit Gems near the Opera House area after midnight on October 15 and stole the diamonds.
Around 21,700 karat of diamond were stolen from a drawer in the office, a senior police official of the D B Marg police station said. “It seems to be an insider’s job as the diamonds have been carefully stolen from the drawer without damaging other things. One of the five employees of the office is missing and we are checking the footage from the building’s CCTV camera for clues,” he said.
The office was shut early by owner Hitesh Patel on the evening of October 15. He discovered the robbery on Tuesday morning and reported to the police in the evening. The police has also registered a case.
