The monsoon session of the Tamil Nadu Assembly began on a stormy note on Wednesday with the mass eviction of Opposition AIADMK members from the House.
The AIADMK members were evicted when they raised the issue of trespass into the house of Leader of the Opposition J Jayalalitha by a man on Tuesday. Raising the issue when the House reassembled after a brief adjournment following obituary references to former Prime Minister S Chandrashekhar and a few others, AIADMK whip K A Sengottayan said this was the third such incident since the DMK came to power.
It showed that the Government had deliberately scaled down security for the former chief minister who was facing threat from the LTTE as she was responsible for getting it banned in India and from Naxalites and pro-LTTE Tamil extremist outfits on which she had cracked down during her tenure.
He said the intruder managed to get inside the house and was intercepted at the library on the first floor. As he refused to answer questions, he was handed over to security.
Speaker R Avudayappan refused a discussion, saying the AIADMK members had given notice only on Wednesday morning. The AIADMK members, however, insisted on the issue being taken up immediately.
Intervening, Electricity Minister Arcot N Veeraswamy said preliminary investigation revealed that the intruder was an AIADMK man. Further probe was on.
