Rahul Dravid was left out of a one-day team for only the second time in his career when he was 'rested' for the seventh and final match of the Future Cup at the Wankhede stadium on Wednesday.
The former India captain, who has struggled through the series, had aggregated a mere 51 runs from five innings at an average of 10.20, and the rumour mills had been abuzz that the Bangalorean would be rested for this match.
It’s the first time in nearly a decade that the right-hander has been dropped from an one-day side for want of runs. Dravid was first dropped in 1997 as he was considered 'unfit' for the shorter version, the main grouse being his inability to rotate the strike. He subsequently missed 16 games in 1997 and 26 matches the following year.
Since then, however, Dravid has gone on to establish himself as one of the premier one-day batsmen, appearing in more than 300 ties and collecting over 10,000 runs.
Dravid, who quit captaincy after the England series to concentrate on his batting, has faced just 80 balls in this series, been dismissed twice without opening his account and has a highest score of 31.
