Social activist Swami Agnivesh has been selected for this year’s prestigious Basavasri award, instituted by Murugha mutt.

The award, instituted in 1997, carries Rs 1 lakh in cash and a memento. The award will be given on October 22 at the Sharana Samskruthi Utsav in the Basaveshwara auditorium in the mutt premises.

The name was announced by Murugharajendra mutt seer Shivamurthy Murugharajendra swamiji at a press conference on Wednesday.

Swami Agnivesh is currently the president of Vishwa Arya Samaj, New Delhi and was awarded with the Right Livelihood Award in 2004.
