Students thrashed

The student leaders who had complained to the Lokayaukta for the second time for the removal of a bar in front of the college were allegedly beaten up by the bar owner and his staff.

Student leader Mohan had submitted a memorandum to the Lokayukta during his earlier visit for vacating the bar and restaurant in front of the college on MG Road.

Also the bar he had alleged was violating the Excise Act and hence it should be shifted to a different location. During the Lokayukta’s  recent visit once again wherein he was accepting public grievance, Mohan once again had sought action against the owner.

In the light of this, when Mohan was on his way to the college on Thursday morning, the bar owner and his staff waylaid him and not only abused him but also threatened him with dire consequences and beat him up. He is now being treated in a hospital.

The Kunigal police have registered a complaint against the bar owner and his staff and further investigations are on. Several associations in the town have condemend the attack.

They have urged suitable action against the bar owner so that in the future people would not be scared to come with grievances to the Lokayukta.
