Most of the candidates for the design courses in IT fail to qualify due to their lack of aptitude in design and art, opined NITK Director Dr Sandeep Sancheti.
Speaking at the prize distribution function to the winners of the annual painting and greeting card making competitions organised by Prasad Art Gallery in association with Artistes Combine here on Thursday, he said that students who have artistic talents can make a successful career in design and engineering.
He also felicitated veteran artiste of Mangalore M R Pavanje on the occasion. He congratulated Mr Pavanje for his contributions to the art scene in Mangalore and opined that artistes like him are an inspiration to the young artistes assembled. He also lauded the efforts of the organisers who have been conducting the competition continuously for the last 14 years.
Renowned dancer Arathi Shetty, who was the chief guest on the occasion opined that dancers and artistes can collaborate for the benefit of each other in various ways.
Thousands of school children participated in the competitions in three sections. The theme for the high school section was ‘Dasara’ while for the Higher Primary it was ‘Play ground’ or ‘riverside’. For the primary section, the theme was ‘garden’ or ‘pet animal’. Three prizes were given away in all the three sections along with a number of consolation prizes.
President of Artistes Combine Trevor Pinto, Prasad School of Arts Director K Kotiprasad Alva and others were present on the occasion.
