All the three Pakistani sailors survived in the Den Den mishap occurred on June 23 off coast Thannirbavi beach, returned to their home land on Thursday.
Though the rest 18 sailors were able to fly to their countries in September itself, these 3 had been forced to remain in a City lodge due to technical problems.
Out of the 24 crew in the Eritrian vessel M V Den Den, 3 had died on the day of the mishap itself, but the other 21 had been rescued with the help of the local fishermen and Coast Guard personnel. As they had lost all the necessary documents in the mishap, they had to spend a total of 118 days in a hotel in Mangalore, which was not better than any home detention.
A total of 14 crew returned to Eritria on September 19 while four returned after another week, that was on September 27. However, Pakistanis Mohammed Yunis, Shambriz Khan and Mohammed had been retained. With their return from the City on Thursday, one chapter of Den Den mishap, appears to be concluded.
But as the vessel is still in the sea, the apprehension regarding oil leakage is still alive among the people. No progress has been achieved so far towards its salvage works.
