An amount of Rs 12.5 crore has been released to construct over 308 classrooms in seven taluks under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, said Public Instructions Department Deputy Director Mantelingachar.
Taluk SDMC president who inaugurated the information camp for head teachers at Mudigere Block Resource Centre on Monday, said the government has granted Rs 25 crore for the academic year 2007-08. Out of this, Rs 12.50 crore was sanctioned for civil works and Rs 12.50 crore for other programmes.
In the grants sanctioned this year for quality maintenance programmes, every classroom has been earmarked Rs 3.54 lakhs. Under RIDF Project, the district has been sanctioned 16 classrooms and for each classroom, Rs 4 lakh has been sanctioned, he said and requested that all children in the age group of 6 to 14 years in the taluk must attend school.
Block Education Officer Nagesh said under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, 28 classrooms have been sanctioned in the taluk. District Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan district engineer Gangadhar spoke. Block co-ordinator Raviprakash and taluk engineer Praveen were present.
