Dasara is a time not just fr festivities but also for re-visiting Indian values and ideals. As part of its fourth year Durga Puja celebrations, Poorva Bangalore Cultural Association kicked off a series of cultural events on October 17evening with a distinct thread of social responsibility in its activities.
At a glittering function, the celebrations were inaugurated by Ruma Guhathakurta (Founder of Calcutta Youth Choir) in the presence of Sumitra Sen (Rabindra Sangeet exponent), Soumendu Mukherjee (Deputy Commissioner of Police Banglore), Jagannath Bose (Recitationist), Urmala Bose Sravani Sen (Rabindra Sangeet exponent), and B Ganguli (Chairman Emeritus Exide). The celebrations will continue till Sunday (October 21).
Events during the celebrations include performances from notable artists such as Sravani Sen, Ronkini Gupta, Joy Bhattachariya and Rahul Sexena, which will culminate with a thrilling Dandia dance on the evening of October 20, 2007.
Poorva prides in having members from all communities. It is this camaraderie and bonding that has led to successful events year after year. It is to the organisation's credit that people from all walks of life such as MNCs, top software companeis and others spend a month together as one big team to plan and organize the festival.
As part of the organisation's social responsibility, it has pledged its support to various organisations working for the cause of spastics, visually impaired and senior citizens.
