The Congress on Thursday said that it was not for a coalition with any other political party in the next Assembly elections in Karnataka.
“We have our own strong base and we will have no coalition. We will go into elections when they are held, and on our own,” said the All India Congress Committee media chairman and senior leader from Karnataka Veerappa Moily. He spoke about the present political situation in the southern State.
Responding to queries on whether there could be a possibility of the Congress tying up with a faction of JD(S), as some reports are suggesting, he said, “We do not want to split any party.”
Win on its own
Veerappa Moily said that while the Congress was in a position to win the next elections on its own, “neither Bharatiya Janata Party nor the JD(S) can win on their own”.
When asked about the issue of leadership in the state in the context of informal assertions by the Congress high command that the regional and caste “imbalances” in the PCC would be corrected, Moily said there was no final decision on the leadership issue yet.
“All aspects are being discussed and will be discussed,” he said.
