Bharat Earth Movers Limited toyed with lowly Royals on their way to a 9-0 drubbing in the Super Division football league at the Bangalore Football stadium here on Thursday.
It was all BEML right from the kick-off as the Royals defence wilted quickly. Khalender, Gopi and Govinda scored a brace each, while Wilfred, Obinna Winner and Madan contributed one apiece to the rout.
Royals lacked the wherewithal to match their fancied opponents. The match was just five minutes old when captain Gopi whipped a cross from the right, and Khalender showed deft touch to draw first blood. Gopi was in fine nick, keeping things going on the right flank.
Eleven minutes later, he served another cross and forward Wilfred powered a header with precision to make it 2-0. The BEML midfield functioned with great fluency, winning back possession with ease and feeding the forwards with remarkable consistency.
Shoddy passing
On the other hand, Royals fuelled their own disaster with shoddy passing and sloppy marking. A defensive error saw Govinda slot the third goal in the 38th minute, just two minutes after taking field as a replacement for Shyam.
Three minutes into the second half, Gopi got his name on the scoresheet with a close range effort and completed a double ten minutes later when substitute Danny fed him with a slender touch inside the penalty box.
Then, Ticken’s corner-kick from the left was headed in by Nigerian Winner, the stopper back’s first goal for BEML, in the 62nd minute. Five minutes later, Govinda made it 7-0 while Khalender increased the tally two minutes later. Madan rounded off the scoring in the 81st minute for the emphatic win, the biggest margin so far in the current league.
