The Russian team had the best day at sea, winning both races on Thursday, but Indians continue to hold sway on the overall points tally in the sailing competition of the Military World Games.
Russian sailors Andrey Kiriljuk and Maksim Semerhanov put up strong performances to win both races at the Indian Naval Watermanship Training Centre in south Mumbai.
The Indian team consisting of R Mahesh and Girdharilal Yadav finished second in the first race and third in the second race to maintain their lead on the points tally. The third race was cancelled following unsuitable wind conditions.
With teams allowed to discard the points from their worst performance so far, the Indians now lead the standings with the points, France are on 16 points and Spain on 20. With three races left to go on the final day of races on the morrow, the Indians seem poised to win the gold.
Standings (after 7 races and one discard): India (R Mahesh/ Girdharilal Yadav, 10 points) 1; France (Nicolas Pauchet/ Besson Billy, 16) 2; Spain (Jose Medina Ruiz/ Francisco Soto Loureiro, 20) 3; Finland (Anttila Teemu/ Tamminem Sami, 21) 4; Russia (Andrey Kiriljuk/ Maksim Semerhanov, 26) 5; Germany (Lucas Zellmer/ Heiko Seelig, 44) 6.
