Eight killed in 2 accidents

Tumkur/Chintamani, dhns:   Eight people were killed in two separate accidents in Tumkur and Kolar districts since Wednesday night.

According to a Tumkur report, five people were killed, including four on the spot, and two seriously injured when two lorries collided near Manangi in Sira taluk.

Following the accident, traffic was disrupted for some time on National Highway 4.

In another accident, three persons were killed on the spot when a KSRTC bus ran over them on Kolar-Chintamani road. The victims were riding a two-wheeler when they fell down while trying to avoid an oncoming vehicle in the rain. The bus driver lost control over the vehicle and ran over them.

Plaint against IFS officer

Mangalore, dhns:  An IFS officer has filed a complaint against Karnataka Cashew Development Corporation General Manager Anita S Arekal for allegedly damaging his car. In his complaint, Conservator of Forests (Mangalore Circle) T V Mohandas has alleged that Ms Anita, also an IFS officer, had damaged the car with a lahti.

He also alleged that she had threatened his driver and abused him.

Scouts Jamboree

Bangalore, dhns: The Bangalore Amateur Radio Club will organise 50th Jamboree on the Air (JOTA) in Bangalore on October 20 and 21 at the Scouts State Headquarters, Prof Shivashankar Circle, behind Bangalore Medical College. Amateur (Ham) radio volunteers, scouts, guides and students can participate in this programme, in which scouts and guides all over the world would be contacted through Ham.

Special postal cover and Cancellation will be issued by Postal Department to mark the occasion. Special covers and Cancellation will be available at GPO Bangalore from 10 am on Saturday. For details contact: 98453-55773.

‘Do not sacrifice animals’

Bangalore, dhns: Akhil Karnataka Prani Daya Sangha has urged citizens not to make animal sacrifices during the Ayudha Pooja and Vijayadashami festivals. The Sangha has appealed the people to conduct poojas during the festival.
