Vinapra, the first Hindi rock band from the South, launched its album ‘Vinapra’ recently at a music store in the City. The band looks dormant on stage but it’s their music that does the talking.
Claim to fame
The band, whose claim to fame is 'Dharti', a song featured in a compilation album called 'Ashawali Dhoop' backed by Child Relief and Your (CRY), kicked off the event with a track titled ‘Gurur Bramha’. The song, according to the band's vocalist Natraj K, was chosen because it “stands for who we are.”
With Pradeep and Vivian at bass and acoustic and Manoj George on the violin, they stole the show with their music. Natraj, the vocalist, was the thread that held all the members together. His voice is enough to engage his audience.
Listen up
If you lend your ears to the band, the band will talk to you. It might remind you of Indian Ocean and the likes but has a 'feel good' factor to them. The band will come up with their debut video by the end of October which is shot on the song "Gurur Bramha".
Their first gig was at ITPL's Noon-time Binge, which led them to Freedom Jam. There after their journey took off. The album has been produced by Lia who also have products with a range of natural fragrances. “We thought we should come up with an album and walked into Lia’s office. From that day life has never been the same,” says Natraj.
Lyrics of the song
The lyrics of the song are unique and interesting, Natraj writes them and the music is “a team work. Each of us work on that,” the lead singer adds.
A band that was “so busy in getting things around” that they forgot to name themselves. One of the earlier band members made Vinapra out of their initials. “Coincidentally, members changed but the new ones had same initials.”
