Ethnic and contemporary designer jewellery
DHNS

As the ninth edition of the Jewels of India expo kicks off today, the stall named ‘Jewels by Anu’ is a must-visit at the venue.

The label is by Delhi-based jewellery designer Anuradha Chhabra, who specialises in trendy and reasonably priced designer jewellery.

The collection

Anuradha’s body of work includes both ethnic and contemporary themes. Titled ‘Zubeida’, the wedding collection caters to the entire family of the bride and the groom for every occasion.

“How can you forget the sister, mother or the close relatives of the Indian bride and groom. After all, the marriage of their brother or son is a big occasion in their life too,” says Anuradha, a diploma holder from the J D Institute of Fashion, Delhi.

Thus, apart from the rani haars, earrings with elaborate kanauties, matha pattis, tikkas, bracelets and special Thewa (gold etched in glass) sets for the bride, she has designed beautiful necklaces and pendants set in gold and diamonds, which can be used otherwise by close relatives of the bride or the groom-to-be.

Must have

According to Anuradha, contemporary jewellery is a must-have for every modern Indian woman.

Her collection ‘Dezire’ is for the sophisticated chic woman. Italian coral in peach and white, South African tanzanite, Chinese pearls, Italian amber, sapphire and diamonds set in white and yellow gold - the collection comprises of innovative designs in Victorian danglers, chunky bracelets, neckpieces and more.

Anuradha has designed a collection exclusive to grooms called ‘Royale’.

Apt to its name, the collection includes majestic pearl strings, tie-buttons, cufflinks and kalgis in white or yellow gold, sometimes in Thewa style, embedded with diamonds or exquisite black enamel work.

‘Little Angels’ is an array of cute pendants, rings and earrings sporting cartoon characters with colourful enamel work for the kids.

The unique feature of her jewellery is the exclusivity factor, since she does not retail it. She only creates made-to-order jewellery or by participating in various shows and exhibitions.

So, check her colourful masterpieces out at the Jewels of India 2007, which is on till October 23 at the Kanteerava Indoor Stadium.
