While some are always pondering over their misfortunes that had happened in their lives - wasting their time and energy - some take up some kind of useful work for the welfare of the people to forget their past worries. Ms Ruckmani is one such rare lady, who falls in the second category. After she had lost her husband, she underwent untold miseries and hardship in her life.
To withstand all her obstacles in life, she started a Yoga Institute in Malleswaram, after she had undergone yoga training for more than a decade. Apart from teaching yoga lessons, Ruckmani started reading many books on spirituality and books pertaining to spiritual leaders. Ruckmani has developed tremendous regard and respect towards Swami Vivekananda's life and his teachings.
Her desire is so intense that every year on the occasion of Swami Vivekananda's Birth Anniversary (which falls on 12th of January), she feeds nearly 1,500 to 2,000 orphans. As per Swami Vivekananda, she sees 'God in serving the poor'.
Apart from this annual event she also organises music competitions for underprivileged youngsters on the occasion of Thyagaraja Aaraadhana. This programme is open to public and anybody can come and attend, says Ruckmani. In fact, she gives publicity about this function in the newspapers before the event.
Ruckmani has been teaching yoga lessons at ‘Viveka Yoga Institute’ in Malleswaram for the last more than fifteen years. Here she teaches yoga classes to school-going children, housewives, working men and women.
Spiritual
Apart from these yoga sessions, she conducts 'Satsanga' classes, in which chanting of 'Om' kara for 108 times, reading of 'Vishnu Sahasra Nama' and few pranayama techniques are taught.
In addition to this, she has just started conducting yoga classes separately for working women on weekends. For these sessions as well as for regular yoga classes, Ruckmani charges nominal fees for the efforts she has put in and to undertake some social service activities annually.
Whatever Ruckmani says, she says with authority and from her own experience. She quotes innumerable instances from the life of Swami Vivekananda during her spiritual discourses and her general talks in yoga classes.
She also narrates many examples from 'Bhagavad Gita', 'Ramayana' and 'Mahabharata' to illustrate so many important things in life. She not only teaches "what is life" but also advises on "how to cope with different types of problems in daily life". On the whole, she is the treasure of many moral, ethical and spiritual values. Meeting her is like reading many valuable books, indeed!
